ArtBridge: Curating connections between artists and our community

Boston Center for the Arts (BCA) celebrates the art work of its Artist Studios Building artists through ArtBridge, a curatorial outreach program designed to promote the visual arts, develop relationships with local business and support visual artists in local Boston communities.

For this installment of ArtBridge, the BCA joins with Roosters Men's Grooming Center to exhibit the work of Victor Ortale. Ortale is an Associate Principal at Goody Clancy Architects in Boston and has been associated with the BCA for nearly two decades. With his architectural background serving as inspiration, Ortale creates vibrantly colorful oil paintings and woodblock prints of the urban landscapes of Boston, Provincetown and Arlington.

Victor Ortale | Artist’s Statement

As an artist and an architect, I am drawn to structure and urban settings. Be it the density of Boston, the wonderful light in Provincetown or the quiet elegance of Arlington, I find each location has its own identity. I sense an architectural personality and feel my work is portraiture/caricatures of each place.

About the BCA

Boston Center for the Arts is a not-for-profit performing and visual arts complex that supports working artists to create, perform and exhibit new works; builds new audiences; and connects art to community. The BCA serves arts audiences through exhibitions, live performances and community events, and supports artists through affordable studio, rehearsal and performance space on its historic South End site. The BCA’s two-acre campus is home to hundreds of working artists, as well as several nonprofit arts and educational groups that provide a wide spectrum of services.

ArtBridge presents Edie Bowers at Roosters Men’s Grooming Center

Boston Center for the Arts and Roosters Men’s Grooming Center partner together once again with ArtBridge, the BCA’s curatorial program that reinforces community ties. The current ArtBridge exhibition at Roosters presents work by artist Edie Bowers, a South End artist for over 20 years.

The exhibition, curated by Zelana Davis, Visual Arts Manager at the BCA, is on view through May 31, 2016.

Tyson White, owner of Roosters at 518 Tremont St., was inspired to forge a relationship with the Boston arts incubator after a fundraising event that featured activities from the BCA’s multiple artistic platforms in theater, dance and visual arts. White contacted the BCA and was introduced to ArtBridge, an initiative that introduces BCA-affiliated artists to local businesses. Since the first installment of ArtBridge at Roosters, White and the BCA have grown in strength in their partnership and desire to enliven the South End.

About ArtBridge

BCA/ArtBridge is designed to promote the work of both current and alumni BCA artists from the BCA’s Artist Studios Building (ASB) and Mills Gallery by placing their work in local business establishments for exhibition.

About Edie Bowers

Edie Bowers has been a studio artist of the ASB for over 20 years. For two years, Bowers served as Co-chair of the Board of Directors for United South End Artists, a key component in the proliferation of arts in the South End. Bowers has exhibited across Boston, with her latest exhibition in July 2015 at Boston City Hall. Bowers’ work is inspired by the complexities of nature; she transforms natural colors and organic shapes into a menagerie of intermingling layers. With a depth of color and abstraction, Bowers work is a wonderful complement to the timeless interior of Roosters’ gallery space.

Edie Bowers’ work can be viewed during Roosters’ regular business hours.
