The Salons at Boston Center for the Arts
For the last 2 years “Gertrude’s Artist Salon” has been hive of creativity and dialogue on the BCA campus. Started in 2014 by Associate Visual Arts Director Randi Hopkins, she saw an opportunity to bring artist together for idle conversation, heated exchange and the sporadic, sometimes-thematic exploration of ideas that grow out of and into art. These conversations centered around the visual artists who create art on our campus and in our community.
In 2015 we expanded the “Gertrude’s Salon” model to include “Martha’s Dance Artist Salon”, to give Boston area dancers and choreographers an avenue to share knowledge about contemporary dance as it is practiced and presented around the world. Martha’s Dance Artist Salon, connects area artists to a global conversation on contemporary dance.
For 2016 we’re adding “Ruby’s Artist Salon” where the BCA’s Performing Arts Residents and Core Artistic Partners lead community conversations on the performing arts. This series will give our resident companies the opportunity to discuss their influences, pick each others brains, test ideas, network and discuss the state of theatre in Boston and beyond.
These artist-lead informal conversations are your opportunity to get an inside peek at what’s inspiring today’s artists. Have a favorite artistic discipline? Come get in on the conversation. Visit our website regularly for upcoming dates and topics.
