BOSTON CENTER FOR THE ARTS JOINS “FIRST FRIDAYS”
Nearly Two Dozen Artists to Participate in Monthly Open Studios Event
(BOSTON, MA) – The Boston Center for the Arts (BCA) is pleased to announce First Fridays at the BCA, a series of monthly Open Studios events beginning December 1, 2006. The studio artists at the BCA’s Tremont Estates Building will open their doors to the public on the first Friday of every month from 5 – 9 pm.
Nearly two dozen artists working in a wide range of disciplines will participate (visit www.bcaonline.org/studios.htm for a complete listing of BCA studio artists), joining a tradition that has made the South End’s studios and galleries a Friday night destination.
“First Fridays are an important event in the South End,” says Miriam Shenitzer, a BCA studio artist who specializes in prints, drawings and illustrations. “They draw many people to our community to see art and connect with artists. As part of the South End artists' community, we at the BCA are glad to be able to participate.”
The events will build on the BCA’s success with South End Open Studios, which attracts more than 3,000 visitors to the Artist Studio Building over the course of one weekend each September.
“This is a natural for our Artist Studio Program,” says Libbie Shufro, President & CEO of the BCA. “Our goal is to provide opportunities for working artists to connect with the public, and we’re very excited that Boston’s art lovers will have more opportunities to see the incredible range of work being done in these studios.”
The December 1 event will coincide with Studios@35: Artists at the Boston Center for the Arts, a multimedia exhibition of work by artists who’ve held studios at the BCA over its 35 years, in the BCA’s Mills Gallery (adjacent to the Tremont Estates Building). Many of the artists participating in First Friday will also have work shown in Studios@35 (visit www.bcaonline.org/exhibitions.htm for more info).
