Castle of Our Skins

The Music Residency is a one to two year residency program designed to support a music ensemble by providing administrative space, marketing and production support, professional mentorship, rehearsal and performance space. This residency is intended to support both artistic and organizational growth.

We are proud to announce Castle of Our Skins as our 2019-2021 Music Ensemble in Residence. During their first residency year, Castle of Our Skins will host various community events and will present two evening length concerts. In April 2020 they will present "In Black and White." Tracing a parallel musical line of enquiry into the vivid exchange of visual aesthetics between 20th- and 21st-century African American artists and European modernists, “In Black & White” showcases the often complicated intermingling between the work of African American composers and European aesthetics. Works by Jeffrey Mumford + Luciano Berio, Florence Price + Antonín Dvorak, Anthony R. Green + Béla Bartók, and Jonathan Bailey Holland + György Kurtág. In June 2020 they will present their season finale project "From the Motherland," an artistic portrait of the birthplace of civilization. This will be their first program devoted entirely to the music, art form and culture of Africa.

The Music Residency is generously sponsored by Gregory Ruffer and Peter Stark.
