Martha's Artist Salon at the BCA PDF Print E-mail

A community-led conversation, Martha’s Salon was created to encourage Boston-area dance artists, choreographers, educators and enthusiasts to come together to share knowledge about dance as it is practiced and presented around the world. In each session, a host offers a short workshop, lecture/demonstration or presentation identifying an idea or exemplar that demonstrates why the world of dance looks as does today.

Martha’s Salon is organized by Andrea Blesso Albuquerque, BCA and David Henry, ICA.

This event has been postponed. Please check back for more info, or join our mailing list to be notified.

In a world that asks us to be fragmented—how do we continue to show up whole and connected? As we come to new understandings and articulations of gender identity and sexuality—what is required to stand in our truth? Through a dancemaking process that connects us across age, difference, and distance—what can we know, and how long can that last? Join Marsha Parilla, Director of Danza Organica, and Matthew Cumbie, an Associate Artistic Director of Dance Exchange, to explore identities, herstories and histories, especially as they relate to gender identity and sexuality. This participatory discussion and workshop will share creative practices and connect participants to local and national conversations to better understand the historical and contemporary contexts of queer and women-centered community building.

Folks of all gender identities are encouraged to attend.

This Martha’s Artist Salon will be followed by an afternoon workshop, led by Marsha and Matthew that will dig deeper into topics touched upon in the talk. Register for the afternoon workshop here.
