Vimoksha/Chavi Bansal PDF Print E-mail

May 22–June 19, 2017

Launched in 2010 by choreographer Chavi Bansal, Vimoksha creates multimedia work with an influence of Bharatnatyam, Bollywood, martial arts and contemporary dance. Vimoksha has been presented in theaters and festivals across The Netherlands, India and Norway. Bansal has been commissioned by University of Stavanger Norway, Production House Dansateliers Netherlands, Factorium Podium Kunsten Netherlands, The Dance Complex Cambridge, and Friends of Art India.

During their residency, Vimoksha will develop a multimedia piece that explores concepts of everyday rituals and the comfort or restraint they provide. This premiere work will ask: Does ritual provide the confidence to face the unknown? Does repetition form our identity? Is our true identity revealed when breaking the chains of ritual? Audience and performers will be taken on an uncomfortable journey through chaos in order to explore the sense of safety ritual provides.
