January 11 – February 14, 2016

Kat Nasti Dance is an ensemble of artists currently based in the Boston metropolitan area. The group is a pick-up organization, utilizing the constantly changing and diverse artistic pool available in Boston.

During her residency, choreographer Kat Nasti will develop her new work, The Glorious Mediocre which reflects on the arc of life and just how much it takes to meet the level of mediocrity in today’s society. Through a mash-up of Broadway and Modern dance, The Glorious Mediocre! serves as a memoir of the mundane. Reflecting on her own life as the eighth of ten kids growing up in a relatively unspectacular town, Kat, explores the fruitless pursuits of mortals, with song, dance and a healthy serving of sarcasm.

Kat will also host The Missing Rung: Conversations of the Aging Artist, an artist talk that will touch upon topics such as loss of mobility as a dancer, artistic parenthood, the artist’s career ladder and moving through life transitions.

Kast Nasti has been described as…
“…a beautiful dancer and stunning performer…a gifted choreographer who creates original works requiring super human strength.”
–Karen Dearborn, Director of Dance, Muhlenberg College

2-Day Intensive with April Sellers
Content Driven Choreography: Layering Dance Technique within Everyday Gestures and Text-Based Narratives

As part of her residency, Kat will host a 2-Day Intensive for the dance community with guest artist April Sellers (McKnight Fellow and Director of April Sellers Dance Collective in Minneapolis).

Choreographer April Sellers, whose collective was named “Best Dance Performance” by Minneapolis City Pages in 2015, has earned a reputation for being “sublimely idiosyncratic” with her “abundance of vaudevillian chutzpah”, according to critics. Offering a workshop in Boston for the first time, Sellers will guide participants through her process of layering modern-dance technique within everyday gestures and text-based narratives.
