Mills Gallery Music Series

BOSTON, MA-- The Mills Gallery at the Boston Center for the Arts presents OverHeard/Underground, an all ages music series featuring on-the-fringe bands represented by different record labels from different regions, including Boston, Western Mass and Pittsburgh.
Nate McDermott, the show’s curator and Manager of the Mills Gallery, comments, “Promoters had a chance to step out of their comfort zone when I asked them to add only one band per show. This provides a unique stage for groups from different locations to mix scenes and meet on new ground.” McDermott has played with Boston-based Paper Thin Stages for nine years, and maintains a solo project, Meanings.
Three performances will be held over the course of three weeks featuring three bands each night, with one introductory event per evening. Sponsored in part by the BCA’s Media Sponsor the Boston Phoenix, and in keeping with the spirit of the shows, admission is only $3.33.

INTRODUCTION: Artist David Bernabo
PERFORM, 2008. Digital video, 5:30 minutes
David Bernabo creates works of art by pouring ink onto glass, then trapping the ink with another piece of glass. Here he captures a similar effect with video by positioning a glass bowl to filter in different amounts of ink.
The Making of David Bernabo & Assembly’s New Record, 2008. Digital video.
David Bernabo records for Sort Of Records – the title of the work is self-explanatory. More expansive than Bernabo’s previous work, this record shows an increased playing capacity and several nods to prog rock, 20th (and 21st) Century Classical, and jazz music.
