Secrets of Nature
“And the day came when the risk it took to remain tight inside the bud was greater than the risk it took to blossom.” Anais Nin
This metaphor about change and fear of the unknown is what informs my present body of work. I follow what interests me visually and emotionally, it means to be always searching. Meaningful subject matter is ubiquitous and it is conscious observation that allows me to translate my life experiences into making art.
The inspiration for the birch bark constructions came from my frequent hikes in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. These pieces allow for individual interpretations and offer the viewer an invitation to enter the work through the void. They read as a metaphor for the human condition.
