Conference of the Birds

Ancient Story | Modern Journey

In this world premiere performance, ANIKAYA Dance Theater explores stories of modern day travelers—collected from members of local Muslim, refugee and dance communities—in a collaborative, movement-based dramatic work featuring projection, an original sound-score, and dancers from Boston, Benin, Brazil, Egypt and beyond. Commissioned by Boston Center for the Arts (BCA), this new work is inspired by the epic storyline of the Persian literary masterpiece The Conference of the Birds, a magnificent allegorical tale about the soul’s search for meaning that recounts the perilous journey of the world’s birds to the faraway peaks of Mount Qaf in search of divinity.
