Description

As part of the Massachusetts Coalition for Serious Illness Care state-wide public awareness campaign for Healthcare Decisions Month in April, Boston Center for the Arts brings the interactive Before I Die… Wall to the Mills Gallery, to encourage people of all ages to reflect on what’s most important and meaningful in their lives. Serious illness can occur at any point during the lifespan—this temporary art installation serves as a reminder that it’s never too early to think about making healthcare decisions.

This participatory, collaborative installation will be situated in the Mills Gallery for three days, creating space for people of all backgrounds and ages to join in a state-wide initiative using artistic expression to examine personal vulnerability and meaning in their lives. The event inspires us to reflect and prioritize, and also promotes the MA CSIC’s campaign to bring awareness about the possibility of serious illness and to ensure that everyone in Massachusetts receives health care that honors their goals, values and preferences.

About Before I Die… Wall: The project originated when New Orleans-based artist Candy Chang created an interactive wall on an abandoned house in her neighborhood. The objective was to create a place to help restore perspective, and to share something with neighbors after losing a loved one and experiencing deep depression. Passers-by could pick up a piece of chalk, reflect on their lives, and share their personal aspirations in the public realm.
