Description

Lakou Ayiti | BCA Performing Arts Resident Jean Appolon Expressions

Choreographed by Jean Appolon

In Haitian Kreyol the word “lakou” carries multiple meanings: it can mean home, or the idea of home, the place that calls us back to a sense of belonging, without which we are not whole. Lakou Ayiti is an interdisciplinary production that meditates on the lakou and its loss in the Haitian imagination in a way that also speaks to a universal condition. Award-winning author Edwidge Danticat has guided the creation of the production soundscape that knits together stories of Haitians living in Boston, including Jean Appolon’s own immigration story.

Approximate Running Time: 1 hour, 30 minutes, one intermission.
