Interdisciplinary artist Silvia López Chavez is a graduate from the Massachusetts College of Art & Design. She has exhibited extensively in solo and group exhibitions including the Fitchburg Art Museum, the New Hampshire Institute of Art, Bakalar, Mills, Grossman, and Towne galleries. Chavez has been the recipient of many awards including a Massachusetts Cultural Council grant for her ‘Fresh Air: Portraits of Chelsea’ project, a grant from The Boston Foundation through the Design Studio for Social Intervention for a temporary public art installation at Upham's Corner in Dorchester, MA, and a finalist for The Brother Thomas Fellowship Award. In 2014 Chavez was appointed by the City of Boston Mayor’s Office as a Boston Creates Steering Committee member to help shape a cultural plan for the city. In her role as artist in Residence at Boston Children’s Hospital, and teaching artist at Raw Art Works, she enjoys using the power of the creative process as an agent for positive change. Chavez continues her studio art practice at the Boston Center for the Arts in the South End.
