Stacy Sweeney—BCA Board of Directors
Senior Vice President of Academic Excellence
Dream Center Education Holdings

Stacy Sweeney has dedicated her career to higher education serving in key leadership roles at the campus, regional and national level in both the non-profit and for-profit sector. Recognized as a dynamic leader with exceptional operational skills, Sweeney has successfully guided institutions through periods of tremendous growth and change. Deeply committed to academic quality that positively impacts student outcomes and graduate success, Sweeney has established a reputation as a leader who inspires her college community in pursuit of institutional mission and goals.

In spring 2018, Stacy was appointed as the Senior Vice President of Academic Excellence at Dream Center Education Holdings. Prior to that, she was in the role of President of Bay State College, a private, career-focused, baccalaureate and associate degree-granting institution founded in 1946 and located in Boston’s Back Bay. Previously, Sweeney served as Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), where she was directly involved in every form of higher education: traditional campus-based, fast growing online education, and competency-based delivery models. During her tenure as CAO, Sweeney successfully built infrastructure in various university services departments supporting SNHU’s exponential growth and innovative culture.

Sweeney has also served in senior leadership positions at DeVry University and The Art Institutes and has a proven track record of developing leaders at all levels. Sweeney has been responsible for guiding institutions through initial and reaccreditation for a number of regional and national accrediting commissions. In 2006, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges’ (NEASC) Commission on Institutions of Higher Education (CIHE) voted Sweeney in for a three-year term as the first individual from a for-profit institution to serve as a Commissioner for CIHE and was subsequently voted in for a second term in 2008.

Sweeney earned her Doctorate in Higher Education Management (Ed.D.) from the University of Pennsylvania. Sweeney’s dissertation topic, How Innovative Strategies Can Impact Fiscal Strength: Supporting a Culture of Innovation at Small Colleges, is a potential best practices list for small colleges interested in using innovative strategies to become financially solid while improving the student experience. Sweeney holds a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership from Antioch University, McGregor and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications & Rhetoric from the University of Pittsburgh.

Dedicated to serving her community, Sweeney is currently a member of the Advisory Council for Massachusetts General Hospital’s (MGH) Depression Clinical and Research Program (DCRP) where she has served as a Committee Member and co-chair for various fundraising galas for the DCRP. In addition to her work with MGH, Sweeney serves on the Board of Directors for Boston Center for the Arts. Sweeney has also been a frequent guest lecturer at Boston University’s Graduate School of Education covering leadership topics in for-profit Higher Education.

Nexus Ambassadors

The Nexus Ambassadors is a group of actively engaged artists, professionals and community leaders who play an integral part in advancing the Boston Center for the Arts mission to support working artists, develop new audiences, and connect the arts to community.

The Nexus Ambassadors works to leverage extensive community and civic networks to provide on-the-ground engagement for the BCA and its programs.

To that end, they:

  • attend neighborhood association meetings in the South End to help get out the word about new work incubated at the BCA;
  • take part in civic engagement with the administration of Mayor Martin J. Walsh to advocate for more and better support of artists;
  • build audiences, via face-to-face and social media engagement with their personal networks, for the groundbreaking art cultivation and programming that takes place on the BCA campus.
