Resident Theatre Program

The BCA’s Resident Theatre Program offers multi-year residencies to several small and mid-sized theater companies offering a stable home to foster artistic growth and build new audiences.  Selected resident companies have access to affordable, prime performance and rehearsal spaces, technical and audience development support through promotional collaborations with the BCA.  Resident Theatre Companies represent a diversity of theatrical styles and include:

Company One: The BCA’s newest Resident Company is committed to diversifying the typical theatergoing audience by focusing on radical work that appeals to a younger, ethnically diverse community of both artists and audiences.

Pilgrim Theatre: Recognized for theatrical innovation, physical and vocal power, and unique artistic vision, this Poland-bred company creates collaborative performances of both new and classic work.

SpeakEasy Stage Company: Staging Boston premieres of Off-Broadway hits (Take Me Out; Caroline, or Change), SpeakEasy Stage Company utilizes first-rate local theatrical talent to create multi-award winning productions such as 2005’s Five by Tenn (winner, Best Director and Best Actor, Mid-Sized Company, Elliot Norton Awards). Staging its entire season in the Roberts Studio Theatre at the Calderwood Pavilion, SpeakEasy has grown into a major theatrical force during its tenure at the BCA.

The Theater Offensive: Since its inception in 1990 this company has used talent, sensitivity and fearlessness to engage audiences into the complex world of gay lesbian, bisexual and transgender life. In addition to staging its annual Out on the Edge festival of LGBT theater along with an additional full-length production each year, The Theater Offensive creates community programs, such as True Colors Out Youth Theater and A Street Theater Named Desire, that provide vibrant discussion about the realities of LGBT life.
