House Associate, Cyclorama Events
Position Overview
The Boston Center for the Arts is looking for individuals to support House Management staff for events held in the historic Cyclorama. Events span a broad range of styles and include corporate parties, weddings, art fairs, fashion shows, and trade shows, among others. House Associate will also serve as an arts advocate and should be comfortable speaking with patrons, clients, etc. on behalf of the BCA during events.

ARTS ADMINISTRATION INTERNSHIP – Summer 2008

The Boston Center for the Arts (BCA) is looking for an individual who would like to gain insight and experience in the non-profit arts world.
The ideal candidate is a student who is studying Fine Arts, Theatre / Performing Arts, Dance, Arts Administration or Non-Profit Business Administration and would like to get involved in a hip and bustling arts organization located in Boston’s historic South End.
Position Overview
The arts administration intern is expected to work part time (1-2 days/week) from 9:30-4:30 and reports to the Executive & External Relations Assistant. The intern would serve as a greeter to BCA visitors and provide light administrative support to the Executive and Development departments.
This internship is will start at the beginning of June and run through the last week of August.
Primary Responsibilities include:
• Welcome and greet the BCA’s visitors in the front office
• Become knowledgeable about the BCA’s programming and history and answer visitors’ questions
• Complete various projects at the request of the Executive Assistant as needed (including but not limited to development and marketing assistance, media and press relations, internet research, database maintenance, membership communications, photocopying and packet assembly, shipping and mailing)
• Sort the incoming mail and distribute to office mailboxes
• Expect to have time when you can read, study, do homework and surf the web when the office is quiet

• Academic credit (if possible through your academic institution)
• A lunch stipend (approx $10/day)

VISUAL ARTS PROGRAMMING INTERNSHIPS - Fall 2008
The Boston Center for the Arts is pleased to announce available internships
in Visual Arts Programming, to be focused in the BCA’s Mills Gallery, one of
the foremost centers for contemporary art in Boston.
VAP Interns staff the gallery and are trained to give educational group tours. Additionally, interns will be responsible for a variety of duties related to research and gallery management. They will work directly with the BCA's curator and other staff to assist in archiving gallery
materials; help write external and internal documents; and provide support
during public events.
Interns will be the public face of the BCA’s Visual Arts Programs, engaging
in regular dialogue with visitors. Accordingly, applicants must display
strong writing skills as well as a commitment to and comfort with public
engagement. Successful interns will work independently and take on a shared
responsibility for the success of the BCA’s Visual Arts Programs.
This opportunity is available to 2-4 individuals. Internships are unpaid.
Interns will work approximately 12 hours weekly, to begin in early September, and
should be available through the fall on weekdays and/or weekends (the Mills

Volunteer Opportunities
VOLUNTEER LIASON TO THE PUBLIC
Liasons at the Boston Center for the Arts perform a vital role as
ambassadors to our audiences. Becoming a Liaison is an ideal way for busy
individuals to acquire inside experience in all our arts programs, including
the Mills Gallery, the artists’ studios, theatres, concerts and special
events.
Position Overview
Liaisons are expected to commit to 4 BCA events (approximately 3 hours each)
during each 3-month season. Liaisons are reliable, friendly and proactive
people who are committed to helping us build relationships with a broad and
diverse public.
Primary responsibilities include:
• Working with staff to co-host events at the BCA
• Guiding visitors in the Mills Gallery, our studio building, theatres
and at community events.
• Providing information about the BCA to new and returning visitors
• Helping to set up and clean up after events
We offer Liaisons:
• Invitations to talks and trainings given by artists, performers,
curators, etc.
• Opportunities to work with BCA staff, as well artists, curators,
special guests, et al.
• Opportunities to create new relationships and networks
• An ArtPass, which provides discounts at BCA events, area stores and

VOLUNTEER VISUAL ARTS ASSOCIATE
The Boston Center for the Arts accepts applications year-round for volunteer
Visual Arts Associate positions in the Department of Arts and Community
Programs. The positions focus on the Mills Gallery but can involve work with
the following program areas: the Artist Studios, the Resident Theater
Companies, and/or our Cultural Partners. The Volunteer Program offers a
unique opportunity to gain experience and knowledge working in a non-profit
arts organization and to gain insight into the Boston arts community.
Position Overview
Volunteers are the face of the BCA, and are an important link between our
programs and our public. Visual Arts Associate responsibilities include:
• Supervising and representing the Mills Gallery during a scheduled
weekly shift
• Providing visitors with information about the gallery, the Artist
Studios, theatre performances, and events
• Assisting in event/performance production in the gallery
• Assisting with artwork installation
• Communicating in attentive, dynamic and professional ways with
visitors, initiating and encouraging dialogue with and among visitors, and
serving as a general resource for our public
